Respect, one of the most basic need of every person, is rooted in the truth that all people are created in God’s image. The imago dei (being created in the image of God) forms the foundation both for civil society and for Jesus’ vibrant New Community. Though sin destroyed humanity’s relationship with God, it did not devalue human beings. As a result, we value people through civility, courtesy, and integrity. Above all, we share God’s love in Christ in the hope that they will put their faith in Christ and be renewed in God’s image.
