Episode Synopsis

We had the pleasure of hosting Jeff Meer on the Traipsin’ Global on Wheels podcast hour recently. Jeff is the Executive Director of the U.S. office of Humanity and Inclusion (formerly known as Handicap International). Humanity and Inclusion (HI) was awarded part of a Pulitzer Prize in 1997 for their work on the international campaign to ban landmines. Jeff comes to HI from PHI (Public Health Institute), where he served as the Special Advisor for Global Health Policy and Development, coordinating 18 global health programs, conducting congressional and administration advocacy for global health, and creating new global health initiatives, including a focus on non-communicable disease prevention. Prior his public health work, Jeff entered the U.S. Foreign Service in 1986, with overseas postings in Guangzhou, China, and Frankfurt, Germany. Back home in Washington, D.C., he specialized in human rights and humanitarian issues. Jeff then became the founding program officer for peace and security at the United Nations Foundation. Later he became Executive Director of the U.S. Association for UNHCR, where for five years he led efforts to raise awareness and funds on behalf of the UN Refugee Agency.
