Listen "Ep. 42 - Richard McClung: Traveled the world on a bike"
Episode Synopsis
Richard McClung did his first race in June of 1981 in Stillwater, Minnesota. The event was a circuit race on the infamous steep hill in the city. the next year he only did a few races but set his sight on upgrading to a category 2 racer. He spent his first tow years as a senior learning the ropes getting into moves. His second year as a senior was also when he began thing he could do something with the sport of bike racing. Rich was eventually invited to a camp at the Olympic Training Center in 1985. By 1986 he was back at the OTC. He was invited to race the Tour of Texas. that race would lead to many other notable trips like the Peace Race, the Tour of Belgium to the Tour of Guatemala. In the states rich rode for the famous "Team Shaklee." His last full year of racing was in 1993. Finish with full time racing Rich went back to school and got an economics degree. He would eventually work with mutual funds and settle in the state of Washington. I hope you enjoy the episode because it's a great listen!
