Listen "Episode 022: Slaughterhouse Five"
Episode Synopsis
Today we’re discussing Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt VonnegutOne of the world’s great antiwar books, centering on the infamous World War II firebombing of Dresden, it’s the result of what Vonnegut describes as a twenty-three-year struggle to write a book about what he witnessed as an American prisoner of war. It combines science fiction, autobiography, humour, historical fiction, and satire in an account of the life of Billy Pilgrim, a barber’s son turned draftee turned optometrist turned alien abductee. Billy Pilgrim’s odyssey reflects the mythic journey of our own fractured lives as we search for meaning in what we fear most.In This Episode We MentionVideo clips of Kurt Vonnegut in Back to SchoolThe Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America by Matt KrachFind great books through NoveList PlusGreat banned and challenged books like The Catcher In The Rye by J.D.
