This Week in the Netherlands, Your weekly update about the most important news in the Netherlands – 23 April 2021The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced to publish the confidential records of the cabinet about the Dutch Child Care benefits scandal. The Cabinet reached unanimous decision to publish the records that are normally confidential and are only published after 20 years. The cabinet has decided to publish the records after the Dutch house of representatives urged to do so. In this meeting the cabinet would have talked about intentionally not informing the house of representatives correctly and trying to silence members of parliament. The publishing of these records is remarkable given the distrust of the Dutch parliament in PM Mark Rutte Furthermore, The Situation in the Netherlands around the covid pandemic is still serious. Last week on average there were 8316 confirmed cases per day. There are 2613 people hospitalized, 839 of them are located in an Intensive care unit. Despite of an increase in positive tests, the cabinet has decided to continue with the relaxations of the measures to contain the pandemic. On the 28th of April the evening Curfew will be released and restaurants and bars will be allowed to open their outdoor seating areas again. Public transport will restart their normal timetables again. University Students will be allowed to visit the university once per week.One of the test events that would be organized by Radio Station 538 on the 24th of April is canceled. The event was part of the so-called Fieldlab test events. The event would be held to see if it is possible to organize large concerts again with entrance testing. 10.000 tickets were sold, but after some public backlash the event was canceled by the mayor of Breda.Next week on the 27th of April the Dutch king will visit the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven to celebrate Kings day. Here they will take part in a television broadcast, due to the current covid pandemic the regular festivities are cancelled.
