On Psychodrama
I’m compelled by the idea of childhood identity as it relates to a nonsingular entity our imaginations construct. More specifically, I’m drawn towards the idea that the “I” is merely an infinite construction of the multiplicities of self that create a cohesive illusion of a singular “me.” With discussions surrounding rituality, there is a heavy discussion on the conspiracies of selves as vehicular movements towards accomplishing a task. So much of ritual is about psychodrama - how to convince the self to momentarily suspend belief and withdraw from a reality that is seated in singular logic.
For this piece, I drew heavy inspiration from this theory of rituality and tried to accomplish this by mimicking rhythms found in hypnosis tracks and adding in successive I tried to accomplish this by mimicking rhythms found in hypnosis tracks and adding in repeating visual motifs throughout my piece. Themes of religious prayer, devotion, and piety are used to appease this “psychodrama” so much of ritual entails.
