About 400,000 years ago, Homo erectus discovered how fire is caused, learned its benefits, and learned to control it for the advantage of shelter, protection and cooking. But before the first fire was ignited, the fire within the Homo erectus was ignited to discover and control fire. Fire has been an integral part of human evolution.
