Listen "Vince Sellers - Polygraphs & Pop Music Ep 5., Part 1"
Episode Synopsis
Ever get up before dark and stand outside a door with a battering ram in your hand, leading a tactical unit on a raid? How about boxing a bunch of guys the night before your wedding? Or having to take a polygraph twice, because you're too "clean"? Today's guest Vince Sellers has done all that, and much more. So much more in fact, that we talked for nearly 2 hours and this turned out to be the first, 2-part series on the show! After a decade in corporate America, Vince decided to shake things up and join the FBI. He gained a boatload of experience during his time in the agency and we unpack each part, from the polygraphs during application phase all the way through his final decision to leave and move on. This week's episode covers through the early part of his career in the FBI and next week's episode will take you through the later stages through the end, as well as some reflections on what he learned looking back. There's some real gems in here as we zero in on mental techniques to navigate tough situations, how to recover from grief/depression & knowing when to decide it's time for a change in direction. Vince is currently the Enterprise Architect for the Comptroller's Office for the State of Texas. He also serves as a Commissioner for the City of Austin Community Police Review Commission. When he's not at work, he's composing & recording music as the Austin Apologue and entering his pugs into costume contests. He also has a deep knowledge of pinball machines.
