Listen "The Bunker on RBMA Radio: Mike Simonetti 9/15/2016"
Episode Synopsis
@mike-simonetti
@2mrecords
The New Jersey DJ and label head currently at the helm of 2MR joins Bryan Kasenic, live from our studio in New York.
Mike Simonetti’s story can be told through record labels. He founded Troubleman Unlimited in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1993, an imprint that would grow into one of the classic indie imprints of the last few decades, releasing music from artists like Black Dice, Titus Andronicus and the Walkmen, among many others. In the late 2000s, Simonetti co-founded Italians Do It Better with Johnny Jewel, whose slightly askew take on shimmery disco was simultaneously a throwback to Italian nightclubs circa 1983 and a wholly original invention. He’s since left Italians Do It Better entirely in Jewel’s hands and thrown his weight behind 2MR, co-run with Adam Gerrard and Mike Sniper of Brooklyn’s Captured Tracks. The label, founded in 2015, focuses on electronic music in a broad sense, from the grimy techno of DUST to Simonetti’s own synth pop excursions with Elizabeth Wight as Pale Blue. Also a fine DJ, Simonetti will cross the Hudson to play a set in our NYC studio and discuss his decades-long career in music with Bryan Kasenic.
