Listen "Why Doesn't The Titanic Implode"
Episode Synopsis
The Titanic's wreck hasn't imploded due to differential pressure, but parts of the ship did implode as it sank, likely around 200 feet below the surface. The parts that didn't implode were able to avoid implosion because air had been released from within, equalizing the pressure inside and outside. In contrast, the Titan submersible that was exploring the Titanic's wreck imploded in June 2023, killing all five people on board. The U.S. Coast Guard found debris from the Titan, including the tail cone and the front end of the pressure hull, that indicated a catastrophic implosion. Some speculate that the Titan may have imploded due to a pressurized cabin that violently imploded when the hull ripped, or from "micro-buckling" Hosted on Acast.
