Listen "How to Avoid Burnout as an Actor"
Episode Synopsis
Lets face it, you’re gonna do it. You’re an actor, at some point you’re going to keep pushing and working harder until you reach your absolute limit. You may have chosen this career but that doesn’t mean you’re beholden to burnout. Georgie and Pierce are here to give you the info on working a little bit smarter rather than harder so your chances of avoiding rolling into a tight exhausted ball, hugging a cat and wolfing down bar after bar of chocolate are significantly diminished.KEY TAKEAWAYSIt’s ok to be knackered when you’ve been working hard. Society wears burnout as a medal, but you do not need to prove anything. With less stress you can achieve more. Its far easier to slow down and takes things easier on yourself than stop, lose all your momentum and then return, starting from scratch. Learn how to say ‘no’, or at least ‘not right now.’ This is not unprofessional, it is protecting your asset, you. Prioritise having days of and actually take them off. Not admin! Actual time off.Talk with fellow creatives. No actor is an island! Take advantage of the acting community to be sociable and share your problems and worries. Vent!BEST MOMENTS‘Yes we did choose it. Most people choose what jobs they’re going to go into and you’re allowed to feel rubbish about the down sides of things. That’s not to say let it take over your entire career or anything.’ – Georgie ‘It’s far easier when it comes to burnout to slow down ever so slightly rather than stop completely. As long as you are moving forward, that is the main thing.’ – Pierce ‘Sometimes turning down work makes you more professional. This is really interesting because if you spin too many plates at once you’re going to drop the plates, and you will drop all of them.’ – Pierce ‘It can be really hard when you’re balancing a 9 to 5 or a survival job. It is difficult but you will get there and you will be at a point where you are acting as your full time job.’ - Georgie ‘It’s a weird profession. The amount of times I’ve been sat there on stage and been in some kind of precarious position and thought to myself ; ‘oh yeah, this is my job.’’ – Georgie VALUABLE RESOURCEShttps://www.actorswarehouse.co.uk/ https://Www.instagram.com/Actorswarehouse/ https://Twitter.com/Weareacting/ ABOUT THE HOSTS Georgie King and Pierce Connelly are a couple and business partners with experience in TV, film and theatre.
