Listen "7 Steps to Create a Well-Rounded Character"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode Georgie and Pierce discuss the 7 steps to creating a well-rounded character. It is so often that actors, especially those in their early roles, do not have a character development process, so here is Georgie’s personal process to get you started. KEY TAKEAWAYSDeveloping your character makes your job easier and your understanding of your character results in truthful, natural reactions.Method acting is empathy, not sending dead rats to your castmates, or living as someone else for six months. It can also be traumatising if taken too far.Read the script thoroughly. It may seem obvious, but some actors don’t. Often film is not chronological so you need to understand your position in the story.Get a notepad. Dedicate it to your character and write as much as you can. If it's not in the script, make it up.Talk to Directors. Ask them what they want from the scene. They have a vision of what they want to achieve. Research. Understand the technicalities of the script so you can perceive the nuances of the motivations. If you don’t understand the motivation, research it.Relax and relate. Don’t take it too seriously. Enjoy the experience. BEST MOMENTS‘The more convincing your character is, your performance is, the better you're going to come across as an actor, the more likely you are to get hired again and again and again.’ – Pierce‘Can I have a rant please?’ – Georgie. ‘Yep, go on then. Georgie’s rant.’ – Pierce. ‘ I feel these are becoming far too common.’ – Georgie ‘Apart from anything else, the minute you land a role, the first thing you think of is ‘what scenes are my character in’? And you go through and you pick out your character and you don’t necessarily really read what the other character is saying or what’s going on.’ – Georgie ‘It’s always the sign of a good character when you’re a little bit scared to take them on, when it’s a challenge. That is the sign of an actor that does put in the work and does constantly work on their own development as an actor.’ – Pierce ‘Keep educating yourself on the topics that you're representing because these are going to be real things that affect real people and we are very lucky that we get to represent them and do them justice.’ - Georgie VALUABLE RESOURCESApply to Join Us:https://form.jotform.com/222364023455348FREE GUIDE - 7 Ways to Land Your First IMDb Credit:https://www.actorswarehouse.co.uk/7-ways-imdbInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/actorswarehouse/TikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@actorswarehouseTwitter:https://twitter.com/WeAreActingWebsite:https://www.actorswarehouse.co.uk/ ABOUT THE HOSTSPierce & Georgie are a total power-couple - they founded Actor's Warehouse in 2020 with the sole aim of helping as many actors as possible find their feet in the industry. So far, they have helped thousands of actors (like you) take the next step in their career through social media, and have helped hundreds of committed actors start the journey of turning their passion into their profession through their highly-rated career coaching. If you're serious about taking that first step towards turning acting into a sustainable career, you're in the right place!
