Listen "Ephesians: Walking Wisely"
Episode Synopsis
A wise walk on a macro level is a function of regularly making right decisions on a micro level. There’s not one of us who has not and who will not face many decisions. That’s not the issue. The issue is, “How do we make good decisions?” 1. Walking wisely is a function of seeking the mind of God.2. Walking wisely is a function of engaging with wise people.3. Walking wisely is a function of asking the right question. That question, quite simply is this: “Is it wise?”You can ask that question in three different ways – each of which will help you with the choices you have to make. Here’s the first:1. In light of my past experience, what is the wise thing to do?You cannot escape the fact that you are a product of your past. As a result, your past experiences predispose you toward specific weaknesses and strengths in every area – from finances to relationships to habits, etc. Consequently, what’s safe for some folks may not be safe for you. The right question often isn’t, “Could I do this?” But “should I do this?”2. In light of my current circumstances, what is the wise thing to do?Life is seasonal. What’s wise in one season of life may be unwise in the next – and vice versa. 3. In light of my future dreams, what is the wise thing to do? What do you envision for yourself in ten years - physically, financially, professionally, maritally, parentally, or spiritually? We all have hopes and dreams. But the fact is most people’s hopes and dreams don’t come true. And while it is true that the twists and turns of life can reshape our future, the primary reason why people are robbed of their dreams is we make decisions in the present moment with no thought of how those decisions will impact our future. If in fact you will one day face Him and have to give an account of your life to Him...what would be the wise thing to do now? Wouldn’t it be to get to know Him and to come into relationship with Him? Wouldn’t it be to walk through this life with Him and know His wisdom? Want to hear more on this topic? Check out the series, “Decision-Making 101.”Note – The book “The Best Question Ever” by Andy Stanley served as a major resource for Dave’s study.
