Episode Synopsis

"He said to me, right now you are here and held his hand to his chin; you need to bring it here and he put his hand above his head." Pat explained "you need to have relationships with these kids Jade because they do not know you care about them, they do not know that you are going to stay here and not leave them and until you have that relationship with them, you can't tell them what to do." This conversation with Jade explores the vital importance of relationships and student voice in the classroom. She shares vulnerable moments she has experienced throughout her career thus far as well as practical and applicable strategies and practices. As a PAX Good Behaviour Games Coach and a Restorative Practices Trainer, Jade has learnt how to create a safe and comfortable environment for all students. Having taught in a very low socioeconomic area in San Francisco early in her career, she learnt very quickly that academic engagement can’t be achieved until students feel safe, heard and valued. Her passion for student wellbeing and social emotional development is contagious and truly inspiring! Thank you for coming on the journey with me to create a better future for our life long learners.
