Listen "Sermon: Self-Centered Faith"
Episode Synopsis
With a faith that so many accuse of being "judgmental", it's important to stop for a second and appreciate how self-centered the lessons of the Bible are. That's not to say that the Bible advocates for us to focus on BENEFITTING ourselves, but that it provides us lessons to improve ourselves. Many Christians will read the teachings of Christ and use them as an instrument to point at others' flaws, but that's simply not how they were intended. It's clear that God wants us to focus on our own actions, our own temptations, and our own redemption. In our dealings with others, we should be focused on projecting the same care and compassion that Christ showed to those who sought him. If Christ didn't confront the lost with the magnitude of their sins, why should we use the Bible as a bludgeon? Hold one another accountable, grow in the Word, but don't flatter yourself as being equal to (or greater than) God and acting as a judge of man's morality.
