Listen "Running for office, a Bollywood wedding, & political activism: A conversation with Manisha Singh"

Episode Synopsis

Manisha Singh is a fiery force to be reckoned with. In this episode we talk about everything from her fight taking on the dowry system as a teenager in India, alarming her community by marrying outside of her religion in a very "Bollywood" way, and running for office (and winning) despite being told she shouldn't do it. This episode is incredible for not only everything we learn about Manisha's political activism but also from what we can learn from her confidence and her passion for what she cares about. Manisha Singh is an elected member of district 11's democratic committee, has worked in non-profits around women and children's rights, is the vice-president of the Women's Empowerment Foundation, and is the current president of the Indian American Forum for Political Education (IAFPE).
