Listen "#7 Dr Ken Tindell - Canis Automotive Labs"
Episode Synopsis
Dr Ken Tindell is an expert on all things CANBus and we were delighted to be able to bring him onto the Vehicle Network Podcast and share this conversation about his experiences with CANBus and the work he is doing to help secure CAN on some of our global vehicle fleets. Some eye opening insights in this episode.
Ken was heavily involved in the development of timing analysis on the CANBus in the 90's where he was commissioned to work with Volvo and use his knowledge around timing analysis on realtime systems to predict and guarantee all the performance of the CANBus on their new vehicles. He now designs systems to help secure the CANBus from Cyber Attacks now the modern vehicle is connected to the internet. We talked all things CANBus from basic principles of the system, to the reliability of speed data on the CANBus, to why we need to secure it today on a modern vehicle that may be connected to the internet and how a system that was designed well over thirty years ago can cope in the modern era but why it is still present & not going anywhere just yet.
For further resources and learning from Ken you can find his four part video series in the Open Source Content Area under Automotive Cyber Security where he looks at the types of Cyber attacks on CAN and some of the ways to develop security.
