In the first part of our two-part chat with the V8 Supercars race winner and former team owner, we chat about his early years in Formula Ford and what got him started in racing and the ups and downs of trying to make it in touring car racing in the 1990s/early 2000s, ranging from his breakthrough podium finish at the Bathurst 1000 in 1996, the collapse of his relationship with Tony Longhurst the next year, his often forgotten year with Holden Young Lions, narrowly missing out on a Bathurst win in 1999, and finally achieving success as an owner-driver.
