Listen "S4E8: How Crushed Bugs and Whale Vomit Paved the Way for Makeup Today"
Episode Synopsis
Give me a word, any word, and I'll show you how the root of that word is Greek. The Greeks get credit for the origins of the word "cosmetics," which comes from the Greek word "kosmos" and evolved into "kosmetikos," which basically means the art of beautifying the body. So, there you go. For thousands of years, men and women have been coming up with ways to beautify the body. And in order to look young and beautiful, no ingredient was too strange to try. From various forms of poop to crushed bugs and whale vomit, makeup and beauty regimens haven't really changed that much -- even though companies change the names on the ingredient list!
