For me strength training should be paramount. Now that can take a lot of different forms. 
It doesnt have to be all barbell work and back squats, but you need to prioritise strength work that will help maintain or increase muscle mass regardless of your goals.
This episode I go through why you need to and some recommendations on how you can do it. 
Bodyweight training and circuit training wont get you gains forever.
