The third agreement in The Four Agreements is"Don't Make Assumptions."

When you assume, it makes an "ass" out of "me" and "u." Take a moment and envision your next conversation where you catch yourself creating a story, based on your own experiences, in your head. Have the "Ah-ha" moment where you tell yourself, "I am making an assumption, let me ask a question for clarification." Then the most magical thing ever happens. The person you're having the conversation with provides you with the truth. Rinse and repeat.
