This week is all About Liberal.The word liberal comes from the Latin word Liber, meaning free. Liberal first found its way into politics in 17th Century England around the time of the “Glorious Revolution.” John Locke, often called the founding father of liberalism, wrote about life, liberty, happiness and self-ownership of property. Thomas Jefferson later took his philosophies and adapted them for the Declaration of Independence- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and modern democracy in France is founded on liberty, equality and fraternity.It is therefore ironic when people use the term liberal to insult, denigrate or mock another, while using the democratic privileges that liberalism affords them - free speech, platforms, and individual rights.Woke is not moral about moral performance, it is moral courage, awareness of social injustice, and staying awake to oppression and corruption. When people attack liberals, left and woke, they are trying to maintain power and control through domination, and vilify conscience with courage and love that refuses to stay silent in the face of injustice, oppression and harm.May all beings be free 🙏See you next week,Miranda x
