Bio: Dr. Brian Burkhart is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a professor of philosophy at the University of Oklahoma. He was previously a professor and director of American Indian Studies at California State University, Northridge (2010-2018). Dr. Burkhart’s research is in Native American philosophy, Indigenous environmental justice, and decolonization. His recent book is Indigenizing Philosophy through the Land: A Trickster Methodology for Decolonizing Environmental Ethics and Indigenous Futures.
Dr. Burkhart is working on a current grant proposal to encourage more Native Students to pursue higher education, particularly studying philosophy. Brian Burkhart has extended family in the Navajo Nation, where he was born and raised. He sings Southern-style powwow and enjoys powwowing in his free time.
