The federal opposition is in complete disarray following the release of a scathing internal report which blames leader Anthony Albanese for the party’s disastrous election performance.

The confidential report, prepared by leading party strategists and obtained by The Age, says the party is in a “worse position than at any time in its history” and that Mr Albanese must take responsibility for the result.

The report is particularly critical of Mr Albanese’s decision to abandon the party’s traditional values and embrace radical progressive policies during the campaign.

It says the party’s shift to the left alienated voters in key marginal seats and contributed to its disastrous performance in the election.

The report suggests that the party urgently needs to review its strategy and positioning if it is to have any chance of winning the next election.

It is clear that the Liberal Party is in a state of crisis and it is hard to see how it can recover under the leadership of Anthony Albanese.
