Episode Synopsis

Title: "Because Jesus: Exploring Trust in Our Spiritual Journey - Hebrews 4:14-5:10"

In our sermon from February 18, 2024, we dive deep into the concept of trust, inspired by Hebrews 4:14-5:10. Two weeks prior, we were encouraged to confront and confess our sins, leading us towards true rest in God, beyond the temporary comforts of this world.

Our scripture reading introduces us to Jesus as the ultimate high priest, surpassing the role of the traditional high priest in the Mosaic sacrificial system. Jesus’s sacrifice is once for all, mediating between us and God without the need for continuous offerings. This prompts us to examine what we truly trust in: Do we rely on temporary, worldly things or on Jesus, who is fully qualified to be our eternal high priest?

Through discussing Jesus's qualifications and the concept of the "Trust Trifecta" (Authenticity, Connection, Competence), we are invited to reassess our trust paradigms. Are we trusting in things or in Jesus, who meets all the criteria for our trust?

Low trust in life leads to friction and slows our spiritual journey, often without us realizing that the root cause is our misplaced trust. However, Hebrews 4:14-16 reassures us of Jesus’s understanding, empathy, and the grace he offers. We end with three calls to action: for the unbeliever to consider the invitation Jesus offers, for the self-proclaimed believer to truly examine their faith, and for the believer to deepen their trust in Jesus, ensuring a life of confessed sin and rest in his grace.

In conclusion, this sermon challenges us to reflect on where our trust lies and emphasizes the unparalleled trustworthiness of Jesus, our great high priest, inviting us to lay down our idols of mistrust and confidently approach God's throne of grace.
