Here is what is making news for September 24, 2025.=====================================This Grand Final Long Weekend, authorities are reminding campers across Victoria to follow campfire rules.Forest Fire Management, CFA, Parks Victoria, and the Conservation Regulator say poorly extinguished fires can smoulder for days and reignite. ==========================================================================Beef and dairy farmers aren't the only member of the agriculture sector who have been hit hard by drought over the last two years.It has also been an extended difficult period for bird farmers across the region.Great Ocean Road duck farmer Jodi Clarke says the last five years have been challenging with the business hit by COVID, Bird Flu and then drought.==========================================================================A proposed five-turbine wind farm near Garvoc has attracted over 110 objections from local residents.The project spans Moyne and Corangamite Shires and is outside the state government’s new South West Renewable Energy Zone. ==========================================================================The CFA is urging South West Victorians to get prepared ahead of what’s forecast to be a challenging fire season, with more than 500 brigades across the state hosting “Get Fire Ready” events this October. ==========================================================================With the spring school holidays underway, Ambulance Victoria is urging Colac Otway and Corangamite residents to plan ahead and stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.Emergency Management Manager Kathryn Haden says activities like hiking, bike riding, four-wheel driving and camping can be great fun – but preparation is vital.==========================================================================AND IN SPORTThe Camperdown Golf Club is appealing for more involving tire marks left on its fairways.It is believed the tire marks were also seen behind the Bowls Club and in the car park.The club took to social media saying it's disappointing asking for all members and visitors to follow the rules with motorised carts.==========================================================================On October 4, the Colac Yacht Club will hold a come and try Discover Sailing Day.The event kicks off at 10am with a course led by sailing instructors, and features a barbecue.==========================================================================Kids in Colac are being invited to try golf for free at a Junior Golf Open Day on Friday, October 3.The event runs from 10am to noon at the Colac Golf Club and is hosted by The Golf Institute with support from the Maurie Nielsen Foundation. ==========================================================================See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
