The M1 Pro and M1 Max is Apple's next generation of its custom silicon chip. The M1 chip was already one of the most powerful systems-on-a-chip (or SOC) and this M1 Pro and M1 Max more than doubled that capability in about a year.  By combining the CPU and GPU to share ultrafast memory, this chip reaches desktop level performance while achieving new battery life milestones. If you think about it, all desktop computers need separate power supplies, video cards, motherboards, memory and fans to deliver good performance - yet an M1 powered MacBook can do all this and more on a battery that lasts all day.  Pretty incredible.
