Samantha's story is rather powerful. She was struck with Lyme and tick-borne illness as a child at 14 years old and struggled with getting a proper diagnosis like many of us do. What makes her story more interesting is that she DID get a diagnosis of Lyme and tick-borne illness from a Lyme--literate doctor (LLMD) but her pediatrician did not believe in the diagnosis, and urged her parents to look elsewhere. This decision would sadly have severe consequences. Samantha eventually found herself in a wheelchair. She struggled with the fact that she believed very much that she knew the answer to what was happening, but her parents wanted to pursue other options. This is a harder dynamic because she was old enough to know what was happening in her body, but she was at the mercy of what others thought was best for her. I know this happens in many situations in life, but having lived through Lyme/tick-borne illness, I fully understand how it feels to not have the right answer but knowing deep down inside, it is not the solution everyone else is prescribing for you. Samantha suffered for another 2.5 years until she finally got back to the Lyme specialist. Take a listen to her story. I had goosebumps through at least half of it simply from her insight and energy.
