Episode Synopsis

Hey Satsmate Stackers, I hope you are all doing well! We have recently seen some large measures take place on the H1B program here in the U.S. With this, we will see it cost a lot more to tap into global talent, while concurrently aiming to protect U.S. jobs. I think a balanced approach must be assessed, and in this podcast I explore both sides of the argument, and present my thoughts including: There is no surprise over the past couple of decades that top jobs are getting more competitiveBenefits of tapping into global labor means we can get higher-skilled workersCons make it so companies may pass up on local talent in favor of external talentMany say this is a blow to tech, and there will be a brain drain to other countries around the worldI think for a company to hire an H1B, they should prove that they literally couldn’t find anyoneYouth unemployment rate is approaching 10%, and we need to set up a ladder for our own workersMost recent details of this is it is a one time fee of $100K, no annual fees, doesn’t apply to renewals, only net newsI think it is important to protect American jobs, but I don’t know if this is the right routeThe right route is to make it so American workers are the best, and invest in educationMany trump supporters in tech, like Musk or Thiel, won’t like thisI think the stance will tend to soften over time, as the job situation is much more dire than just thisCreating walls and giving people the boot  will not help this economyWe need to restore the free markets to their full potential, and get rid of corporate interests and NGOs at the government levelIf an extreme stance were to take shape, companies would move where the best talent isRemember the extent companies will take to dive into loopholes, the U.S. doesn’t have jurisdiction in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, or those other countriesIf you like this, feel free to share it, leave a like, or comment.
