Listen "Task Force Lahaina"
Episode Synopsis
The Maui wildfires have brought unprecedented death and destruction. Quiet communities who have deep connections to Mother Earth have witnessed the horrors of wildfire and are struggling to emerge from the ashes. But, the resilience of these communities runs deep. Local community leaders self-organized rapidly and started recovery efforts with only basic supplies and have been grinding non-stop for days. If we learned anything from the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, it’s that volunteer groups can rally around a crisis and bring strategic relevance to local leaders. And pre-existing networks can illuminate local issues from the crisis area that warrant international attention. That’s exactly what is needed here. In this short podcast, I interview brothers Zane and Matty Schweitzer who are leading the charge at the local level and you don’t want to miss the perspective they offer. Recommend sharing this podcast with any Government Representatives on Maui to just broaden the perspective to include local context. If you care about what’s happening in Maui, please listen to this special edition of Rooftop and please share it widely. Let’s support Task Force Lahaina.
