Black women in the United States have a higher maternal morbidity and mortality rate than white women. In 2021, the maternal mortality rate for Black women was 69.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is 2.6- 3.0 times higher than the rate for white women. Black women are also more likely to experience life-threatening conditions during childbirth, such as: Preeclampsia, Postpartum hemorrhage, Blood clots, Preterm birth, Low birth weight etc.Retired nurse, child birth educator and black maternal health advocator, Janice Hackney, shares her 40 years experience on the labor and delivery floor, much needed information, advice and more.
