Listen "When Being Selfish is a Good Thing"
Episode Synopsis
When is it appropriate to take a selfish stance within a relationship? Is it ever appropriate? Some people may say never, but being constantly providing for others needs and not looking to ourselves can be self destructive. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are reasons why we may find it difficult to put the needs of others before our own. Fear of being used or hurt could be reasons. A lot of the time we label a difficulty in saying no as guilt. But saying no is not always something to feel guilty about. The next time you think of putting yourself first, understand if there are any barriers in your way and the nature of them. Define for yourself if you are being positively selfish or negatively selfish. BEST MOMENTS ‘Selfish is defined as only being focused on yourself or acting that way. Concern chiefly or excessively for oneself and having little regard for others.’ ‘We might do that for a variety of different reasons. What would drive us to only serve ourselves? What kind of need does this meet?’ ‘Most of the time we’re not doing anything that we need to feel guilty about. And I like to challenge that feeling of guilt.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES If people want to order a copy of the book then they can just pay postage of £4.95 (RRP £8.99) - www.johnkennycoaching.com/podcast-book-offer Want to be able to address the relationship issues in your life? - Why not book in for a complimentary call and we can discuss how you can get the new started with some new types of relationships - https://calendly.com/johnkennycoaching/30min The Relationship Guy Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/the-relationship-guy ABOUT THE HOST I am John Kenny, The Relationship Guy - Coaching people to experience healthy loving relationships.
