Radio Academy MD Sam Bailey speaks to UK radio veteran Tim Blackmore, who has recently learnt that he as an inoperable brain tumour, and that he likely has a few weeks left to live.
Tim is one of the founding parents of British pop music radio. He helped launch Radio 1 in 1967, helped reboot Capital in 1977, and practically invented the independent audio sector with his company Unique in the 1980s. He was also one of the founders of the original Sony Awards and of The Radio Academy itself.
This isn't a full biographical interview - instead, Tim and Sam speak about Tim's reflections on the industry as he starts to say his goodbyes. They look back at the founding of The Radio Academy, its initial purpose and mission, and Tim shares his views on the current state of the UK radio and audio sector.
He describes the incredible reaction to his announcement of ill-health, contemplates his legacy, and passes on a farewell message to an industry he has helped nurture for 60 years.
