Special episode – Johnny from Epping joins us in studio
He’s brought in almond cake, eggs, blood orange juice
He has always called talkback radio – started calling Rex at 3AW
When Johnny heard something he didn’t like, he felt he needed to call into the station to fix it!
When Rex finished, he switched to SEN – calling KB, Harf, Garry and Tim
He was working for the council and thought he would get in trouble from the boss for calling off the work phone
Spoke about his days hunting quail
Growing up in Italy – started working at the age of 9 and did lots of hunting
He was 9 when his mother passed away – and he stepped up into a guardian role for his siblings
His youngest sibling was 6 months when his mum passed away – he used to carry his brother around the town and asked other mothers with new borns to breast feed his brother to keep him alive
They had a donkey which he says they used ‘like a truck’ to help transport things
Lived in Switzerland for two years
Came to Australia on a boat – took one month, arrived at Port Melbourne and went to live in Thomastown. Worked in a factory to make doors
Why he barracks for the Roos – Tom Hafey, Ron Barassi… He watched the 1977 Grand Final and it took off from there
Used to tell his boss he was sick each week and he’d go watch the Roos train… But got caught on TV one day!
Doesn’t like all the rule changes in the AFL
Spoke about getting recognised in public because of his voice
Advice for Garry – thinks the AFL is paying him under the table
Advice for Tim – wearing those smart arse glasses
