Episode Synopsis

Teresa King made history by becoming the Army’s first female director of the Army’s Drill Sergeant Training School at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. Now retired, Teresa also attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the Army. But her start in life was on a farm in Clinton, North Carolina. One of twelve children, she joined the family growing cucumbers and tobacco to make ends meet. Teresa graduated from Drill Sergeant School she later led. She also served as the administrative assistant to the Chief of Staff of the United States Army at the Pentagon. In 1988, she became the administrative assistant to the Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. She graduated from Liberty University, is a certified paralegal, and has done work on a doctoral degree. She has been recognized as a history-maker by TheGrio Magazine and named one of Oprah Winfrey’s Top 20 Power Women in the World. Her leadership and commitment to excellence have earned her the moniker, NoSlack.
