Concerning Making PromisesMatthew 5:33-37Every law-abiding Israelite knew where Jesus was coming from with this teaching.·       Lev. 19:12 ·       Num. 30:2 ·       Deut. 23: 21-23  Why do people break promises?1.     For the lost, is the desire for personal gain at any cost.2.     For Christians, they get so stressed about their promises because they bite off more than they can chew. Jesus makes three points about promise keeping.1.     Don’t make a promise with God’s name on it. (vs 34-35)2.     Don’t make a promise based on what you think you will be able to do in the future. (v. 36)3.     Avoid giving the impression that God is ok with broken promises. (v. 37)So, what is Christian to do when someone asks them to do something? 1.     Do a realistic assessment. 2.     Be honest in your response.
