In this episode I spoke with the UK’s first PA in hospice medicine, Jovy Giles, about tough workplace experiences, going after your goals and getting into the heart of why palliative medicine feels like the ‘medicine we are supposed to do‘. 

In the words of Prof Baroness Ilora Finlay arguing for the Health & Care Social Bill change before palliative care was finally recognised as a UK citizens’ right in March 2022: “The other truth, that everybody is born, was recognised by requiring every part of the UK to have maternity services. […] No one would advocate to have a bake sale so that a woman in obstructive labour can have caesarean section, so why turn a blind eye to ways to improve the quality of life of those with serious and life-threatening illnesses and support their families?” Baroness Prof Ilora Finley, House of Lords, 2022
