Episode Synopsis

Good afternoon, Penn State community. Today is Monday, July 28, 2025, and here are the latest updates from University Park.

The $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium is progressing steadily. This summer, construction crews are pouring concrete for the foundation of the new West Tower, which will house suites and club seating. Temporary seating arrangements are being installed to accommodate fans for the upcoming football season, ensuring that Beaver Stadium remains at or near full capacity. The entire project is on track for completion before the 2027 football season.

On July 23, Head Coach James Franklin, along with senior quarterback Drew Allar, redshirt senior offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, and redshirt senior safety Zakee Wheatley, represented Penn State at the 2025 Big Ten Football Media Days in Las Vegas. This annual event serves as the kickoff for the upcoming football season, providing insights and updates from teams across the conference.

In a significant decision, the Penn State Board of Trustees approved the closure of seven Commonwealth Campuses—DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre, and York—effective after the spring of the 2026-27 academic year. This move aims to optimize resources and strengthen the remaining 13 campuses, ensuring a robust educational experience for students across the state.

The new Palmer Museum of Art, located at the Arboretum, officially opened its doors on June 1. This 73,000-square-foot facility nearly doubles the exhibition space of the previous museum, featuring 20 galleries, educational spaces, a museum store, and a café. The museum's inaugural exhibition includes Dale Chihuly’s "Lupine Blue Persian Wall," a stunning 13-foot installation that spans 35 feet.

From July 9 to July 13, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts brought vibrancy to downtown State College and the University Park campus. The festival featured hundreds of independent vendors, live performances, and interactive activities, drawing large crowds and celebrating the rich artistic culture of the region.

Currently, it's sunny in State College with a temperature of 72°F (22°C). As the day progresses, expect temperatures to rise, reaching a high of 92°F (33°C) by late afternoon. The evening will bring clear skies with temperatures gradually cooling to 77°F (25°C) by 11:00 PM.

That's all for today's update. Stay cool, stay informed, and as always, We Are Penn State!
