Listen "25. Centering the Gospel of Jesus on the Oppressed with Rev. Megan Madsen"
Episode Synopsis
Megan Madsen, a Wesleyan theologian, discusses with Tim whether or not social justice is Biblical justice. From the Hebrew Bible to the Gospels, Megan breaks down how Judaism viewed injustice and how God expected Israel to respond to oppression of any kind. Megan, also reorients believers to an oppressed centered gospel in which the Spirit of God moves through a believer and accomplishes good deeds through them. She points out that modern Evangelicalism is centered on the white, male, heteronormative, Christian, captialist model and the gospel must benefit that believer. This is in contrast to the believer being beneficial to those around them, especially the most vulnerable in society.
