The elder James was in the starting lineup, but needed to wait until eight minutes into the second quarter for his son to make an appearance.
The Lakers ended up beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 110 to 103 in Los Angeles.
The game was also the first win for rookie head coach JJ Redick. Anthony Davis finished the night with 36 and Julius Randle struggled at times in the first half for the t-wolves.
Anthony Edwards finished the game with 27 points.
