Reporter Mark Dorenkamp talks with Chris Nicholas, president and co-founder of Låkril Technologies, about his company's efforts to produce a bio-based acrylic acid. Acrylic acid and acrylates are chemicals widely used in the manufacturing of paints, coatings, textiles and more. Research has shown that deriving acrylic acid from a renewable feedstock, like corn, could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 35%. Minnesota's corn organizations are funding Låkril as part of their mission to foster new uses for for corn, support innovation and promote sustainability.
