Listen "Winston White: I never wanted to win so badly!"
Episode Synopsis
A man with almost 200 appearances for the Bulls, the first black player to play for Leicester City, and a true inspiration on and off the pitch, we were honoured to be joined by ex-Hereford United player, Winston White!Winston takes us right back to where it all began – stealing his brother’s football boots just so he could put something on his feet to play football. It's a story underpinned by incredible mentality and resilience, spanning a fantastic career with Leicester City, Hereford United, Bury, Burnley, and even a spell in Hong Kong.We ask Winston about the famous 1979 Len Cantello Testimonial, a match that fielded a team of black players against white players. Winston shares what that groundbreaking match at The Hawthorns meant to him personally and what it represented for the future of black footballers in the UK.Of course, we couldn't let him go without reminiscing about his four incredible years at Hereford United, covering the 1981 Welsh Cup Final, the FA Cup 4th Round tie against his old club Leicester in 1982, and his pride at returning to West Bromwich Albion. Finally, Winston tells us about his work today with the Professional Soccer Scouts Association (PSSA) and wishes the Bulls all the best for the season. This is one you don't want to miss!
