In this week’s podcast episode, Charlotte and Paula talk about the misconceptions regarding growing a garden design or landscaping business.

What are the misconceptions about growing a business?
‘You need to grow with large in-house teams’ - you could do this in many different ways by using design sub-contractors, installation sub-contractors, outsourcing your marketing etc.
You don’t really know where your clients come from -you need to ask your clients where they heard about your business (to get to your enquiry from, were they referred by a friend? On google? etc) and track to see any patterns.
‘There has to be a lot of money to grow’ - it doesn’t have to be as you can do marketing by posting on your socials and creating ads. If you’re spending the money and bringing in the results, it’s paying for itself. For example, you may spend £5 on an advert where a £10,000 garden transformation enquiry comes in.
Conversion rate - Make sure you look at you conversion rate from enquiries into sales. There’s no point marketing if you’re not converting those enquiries at a reasonable rate.
‘I’m too busy, let’s get rid of stuff which isn’t as important’ - Marketing should never be stopped! Consistently market your business, otherwise your enquires will dry up.
‘If you try different marketing, your going to be overwhelmed with time wasters’ - Quality marketing is all about bringing the RIGHT enquiries in, not time wasters. You will always get a few, but if you are bombarded - you need to tweak how you’re using the platform, or scrap that area of marketing.
