Episode Synopsis

Hey Everyone!
For this episode I wanted to share an essay I wrote in reaction to Bassey Ikpi's book I'm Telling the Truth but I'm Lying. In the book, she talks about her experience with Bipolar Disorder and journey it took to get the support she needed. I read this book two years ago and still think about it every so often. I had never encountered a book like it: a detailed account of a Black woman's ups and downs with developing a mental illness and the work it took to get the proper diagnosis and help she needed. It speaks to the importance of her openness and transparency that may inspire others to pursue help for themselves as well and combat the stigma. I will be forever grateful to her for this book.
There is reference to suicide in the book and in the essay (6:30). Please listen and/or read with caution. Nonetheless, I hope it is positively impactful.
