Listen "Early Childhood Music Lessons - Module 2 - Video 6 - Welcome Song using sol-mi and hand signs"
Episode Synopsis
Today I am going to introduce you to the Curwen hand signs. These were created by a man named John Curwen in 1858 based on the Norwich Sol-fa developed by Sarah Ann Glover in 1811. These signs help students ground their singing with movement. It also helps them gain accuracy because they are now associating two memories with the pitch, both how it feels to sing the note and the hand sign.
