Listen "Podcast #17 - Being a Focused Leader"
Episode Synopsis
Hello and welcome to another episode of The King’s Business, a podcast designed to help business leaders apply biblical principles in both their personal and professional lives. I want to thank you for joining us today and it is my hope that you will walk away with added wisdom to your life so you can go into the world and be a positive influence on others by doing the King’s business.
1. What is focus?
The center of interest or activity
The state of having or producing clear visual definition
2. Center of interest or activity
What are you spending your time on?
Mostly strengths
Some time on learning new skills
Very little time on weaknesses (just enough to make them neutral and not a detriment)
3. Producing clear visual definition
Is your vision clear for what you want to accomplish?
You can never get back time, so be intentional with what you spend it on
As the leader, do others see your vision as clearly as you do?
You can’t tell the right story if everyone is not on the right page
How can we apply the concept of being a focused leader in our professional lives?
1. Spend 70% of your time growing your strengths
Strengths are things we are naturally good at and usually enjoy doing
Our strengths are the talents God has invested in us, and it is our job to do our best to grow that investment
2. Spend 25% of your time learning new skills
Look for skills that could complement your strengths
Learning new skills can illuminate strengths you didn’t know you had
3. Spend 5% of your time on your weaknesses
Weaknesses rarely become strengths, so it's best to see them in that light
While weaknesses probably won’t become strengths, they can be made into neutrals so they are not a detriment to you
Final Thoughts
When was the last time you wrote down your strengths?
What is a new skill you could learn that will complement one of your strengths?
What is a step you could take this week to turn a negative into a neutral?
Remember that as a leader, someone is always watching your example, so make it one you can be proud of
Thank you for joining us this week, and remember, as followers of Christ, we are called to glorify God in our actions, to grow His kingdom through our example, to be a positive influence on others by doing the King’s business. Thank you and have a great week!
