Episode Synopsis

Part 3In this episode Mel and Jenn continue relaying encouragement for moms from their friends and mentors.  This is part 3 of a 3-part series where we share wisdom and treasures from moms who have gone before us in parenting. Today, we hear advice and wisdom from Jane Keller, Missy Evans and Jane Burns.  The advice conveyed is encouraging and relatable to any mom at any stage.  We hope you find hope, inspiration and strength from these conversations, or in the least, they lead you to be grateful for those who have encouraged you along the way! Memorable quotes from this episode:Jane Keller:“Your parenting style - strict, permissive - whatever --does not matter as much as how well you unconditionally love your kids. Unconditional love is what our children need. That is what gives them the security and freedom they need to be themselves.”"In one of the kindest moments I've ever  experienced with the Father - He told me, 'Your children are mine.' I know that is a personal moment but I share it because it is true for all of us. I know as moms we can have a lot of fear- especially as our kids get older and begin making their own choices in life!  But, the knowledge that they belong to God, not me, has brought me such deep peace in some difficult times."Missy Evans:“Motherhood is a spiritual battle, and you need to treat it as such. You need to engage in the spiritual battle with the weapons of warfare that are not of this world (2 Corinthians 10:4)…We don’t do it with the weapons of wine (5 o' clock happy hour in the cul-de-sac and complaining about our kids), we don’t do it with working out for 2 hours a day as an escape, we don’t do it by staying super busy so our mind and our heart is so unplugged from our family that we are not engaging in discipleship or have any bandwidth to be available to them. We do it through prayer, through fasting, listening and drawing close in bible study, and through the discipline of contentment and blessing our children.”Jane Burns:“Let your kids fail and be disappointed…While they are still with you at home it is such a safe place for them to mess up or deal with disappointment- this allows parents to help kids process their reactions and responses to disappointment so they will know what to do and how to handle it when you are not around.“‘Stop looking for fruit and rest in My promises.’ This advice came straight from the Lord one day when I was frustrated about the constant pouring into my kids but not feeling like I saw ANY fruit or results. He spoke this word into my heart, and I realized at that moment that I needed to know and learn more of His promises so I searched my Bible for weeks looking for every promise I could find, and it was life changing! For me and my kids…”Scripture mentioned:Isaiah 40:112 Corinthians 10:4Genesis 3:151 Peter 4:8Joel 2:25Numbers 6:23-26Thank you to ALL of our friends and mentors who took the time to submit such rich and deep encouragement!  We are grateful for your influence in our lives and I know that those who are on The Journey will treasure your wisdom.  If you have any questions for us or for those who we've shared from, feel free to email us: [email protected] for joining us on The Journey Expressed!
