Listen "Disability Dojo: Finding Meaning In Suffering"
Episode Synopsis
In today’s dojo, Tony talks about suffering. For the purpose of this dojo, suffering is being used as a catchall word that could mean a variety of feelings many of us may be feeling: it could mean anxiety, stress, depression, loneliness.. it could mean a lot of different things. In this episode, Tony’s intent is to have a discussion of thoughts that he has had around suffering, especially when we zoom out and take a look at such aspects like inequality, economic challenges, world events taking place today, etc.
As the center is picking back up with serving more people and reconnecting with consumers in person versus virtually, what Tony has seen more recently is that they’re meeting people who have more complicated needs than ever before and on levels they’ve never seen in the past.
With the passage of time, Tony has been able to reflect and see how these experiences have helped to fortify and put him in better places in his life had he not gone through them. That suffering lead to him being in a better place and giving him values and knowledge that he wouldn’t have had otherwise. Tony also shares how there may also be the opportunity to find meaning and purposes through the suffering that we experience.
