Ashore the Army, USFS, and local volunteers scramble to compile data and prepare for whatever might come next. At Los Alamos, New Mexico we introduce the key players of the fledgling top secret facility that has been tasked with the dubious challenge of developing a super weapon that will end the war. We meet J Robert Oppenheimer, General Leslie Groves and the top scientists, physicists and demolition experts as they set out to beat the Germans and Japanese to the atomic punch. They head the Manhattan Project. To them Oppenheimer express the reality that the clock is running. Tagami concocts a daring last-ditch escape plan and sets the sub in motion after firing a torpedo as distraction. Up on the hill atop Mt Emily, site of the Fujita’s first bombing, a small platoon, half civilians, talk around a campfire about their unsolicited situation. As their campfire crackles, all turn to look westward as an ominous explosion breaks the nighttime calm. ONCE AN ENEMY is the story of a Japanese Pilot who dropped four bombs on United States soil following Pearl Harbor and America’s subsequent entry into WW II. Twenty years afterwards he would become and Honorary Citizen of the same seaside community he bombed.
