The Americans is not just a spy thriller, but a highly nuanced serial drama and period drama that made both critics and audiences alike sit up and pay attention. The Americans featured a married couple as undercover KGB agents living as a typical American family during the height of the Cold War, and chronicled how their already stressful and dangerous lives are made even more so when an FBI agent moves in across the street.
